This was quite an interesting project I stumbled into. Life keeps taking me to unexpected avenues I wouldn’t have travelled through my own volition. Suddenly, I was brought in to make graphics and video for a government event. I will once again explain Social Welfare Council (SWC) to you, reader, as I had to, many times, to the people I enlisted the help of for this project. SWC is a government body that regulates INGOs and NGOs that work in Nepal. Their event ‘Digital Sewa Subharambha’ was the launch event of their new digitization portal which would bring their paper and file based process to a digital and interconnected system. Hope that gets you up to speed on what the event was.

So I was called in like 2 weeks before the event to make the graphics for it and also handle the video production for it. A window of 2 weeks isn’t ideal for such work but was quite managable. But soon, it might have been like 1 week or more before the event, that an animated introductory video of SWC got added on to my work pile. This ANIMATED video is really what was the mountain of labor that my team and I had to somehow climb through impossible time and odds. I had to do it, make it happen because this was such a great opportunity that might not have come by again. And also learning that the interim prime minister Sushila Karki was the chief guest really increased its importance and upped the stakes. I have deep respect for her for being the conduit of the new era of Nepal that we are currently living in.

There were quite a lot of challenges that we faced from which I could probably write a book about but one of the major ones I got intimately acquainted with finally was government bureaucracy (the big bad I had heard so much about). I can’t believe we managed to pull off the event and that was absolutely because of the amazing team that we had. Big thanks to Deepak sir and Nigin ma’am who trusted in me and were vigilant towards the success of the event. Sudharshan and Manish from Jungle Tech who did an amazing job in the graphic design department. Rishan and Rikin for handling the interview shoot for the introductory video. And, of course, the various government workers in SWC who were wonderful and cooperated with us for the success of the event. I want to mention Prakash sir of SWC for writing an incredible script for the introductory video and Rishi sir for helping with finances.
10 Sec Preview of Intro Video of SWC
I need to specially thank Lum dai for just knocking it off the park with the animated introductory video. I do not know how he did it. The script was finalized like 2 days before the event and we got the voice recording only 1 day before the event. Lum dai did the impossible. There are no awkward unfinished sections or obvious errors of a hastily made video and the quality of the animation is top notch. Did I mention that the video at the end turned out to be 15 MINUTES LONG?? Lum dai is a magician and I hope he gets to work his magic in many more amazing projects. I’ve only shown the 10 second preview of the video above. I don’t know when SWC will post the video or where. I shall share the link to it when they do.
Once again, hats off to everyone with whom I had the pleasure to work with. Much of it was all completely new for me and I was very much out of my depth here. I couldn’t have done it without the help of many great people. We climbed this mountain and made it to the top! Cheers!!
